SMS opt-in evidence
This page documents, in public and without any sign-in, exactly how Task Goat collects end-user consent before sending SMS/MMS messages. Task Goat sends transactional job messages only; it sends no marketing text messages. Every step below is reproducible on the live public page at thetaskgoat.com/sms-consent.
Step 1. The recipient opens the public consent page
No account and no login is required. The page is reachable at https://thetaskgoat.com/sms-consent. It explains who Task Goat is and what messages the number will receive.
Step 2. The recipient enters their own mobile number
The number field is empty by default and is filled in by the person who owns the phone. Managers and administrators cannot opt anyone in: inside the app, whenever a manager saves or changes someone's mobile number, any stored consent for that number is cleared automatically.
Step 3. The recipient checks an unchecked consent box
The consent checkbox is always unchecked on load. The disclosure shown next to it reads, verbatim:
I agree to receive recurring transactional SMS/MMS messages from Task Goat regarding work orders, scheduling, job updates, photos, reminders, sign-in codes, invitations, and payment or settlement activity. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. Consent is not a condition of purchase.
Directly beneath the disclosure the page links to the Terms & Conditions and the Privacy Policy, and states that mobile information and SMS consent are never sold, rented or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
Current disclosure version: 2026-09-07.v2
Step 4. Consent is recorded with evidence
Each submission stores:
- the mobile number in E.164 format
- the consent status (opted in or opted out) and the date and time
- the exact disclosure version the person agreed to
- the consent source (public web form, in-app settings, or a START reply)
- a one-way hash of the requesting IP address and the browser user agent
- the opt-out date and time, if the person later opts out
The same record is written to an append-only consent history log, so every change over time can be produced on request.
Step 5. No message is sent without a recorded consent
Every outbound message passes through a single send path that first checks the recipient's consent record. If the number has no recorded consent, or has opted out, the send is refused — this includes work-order texts, crew invitations, reminders, settlement notices and one-time sign-in codes.
Step 6. Opting out is always available
Replying STOP (or STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT) to any Task Goat message immediately marks the number as opted out; replying HELP returns help information and the support address. A recipient can also opt out on the public consent page, or turn text messages off in their Task Goat settings. Replying START opts back in.
